Beginning in mid-August Metro Transit Route S bus will follow a slightly different route through the heart of downtown Sun Prairie. The stop currently on Market Street at Cannery Square will move around the corner to the south side of Main St, directly across from City Hall. This change was approved at the June 25, 2025, meeting of the Madison Transportation Commission.
The relocated stop will provide access to Cannery Square similar to that provided by the current one. But instead of being served by buses headed north on Market, it will be served by buses traveling eastward toward the intersection of Main and Grove Streets.
Instead of traveling the full length of Market to Main after stops at the Main and Grove intersection and at Angell Park, buses will turn left (west) onto Linnerud Drive and then right (north) onto Bristol Street. A new stop will be established near the corner of Linnerud and Bristol across from the New Perspective Senior Living facility.
The new route will be the same as the one Route S currently uses when re-routed for the Saturday Sun Prairie Farmers’ Market and other occasional community events in the Cannery Square area that require closing Market Street. The new route would avoid having to re-route service on an ad-hoc basis for those events. This is time consuming for Metro staff, who need to post temporary signage at the current Market Street stop on each occasion, and can also be confusing for passengers.
Below is Metro Transit’s diagram of the change as presented to and approved by the Madison Transportation Commission on June 25, 2025.
